Renting a crane in Dubai starts with a clear description of the lift. Two quotations can look similar while covering different equipment, people, transport and working hours. These five questions help contractors compare the complete scope and identify gaps before the crane arrives.
1. Can the proposed crane perform the actual lift?
Provide a verified load weight, dimensions, lifting points, pickup position, final position and required height. Ask how the proposed machine and configuration match the working radius and load chart. The headline tonnage is not the capacity at every reach.
Confirm whether rigging weight, hook block and other deductions have been included as required by the relevant chart. Ask for the assumptions to be recorded. A recommendation based only on “a ten-ton load” leaves too much unknown if the crane position and reach have not been established.
2. What must be ready on site?
Discuss entrance dimensions, turning space, assembly area, support footprint and the planned load route. Explain any underground services, excavations, overhead lines, occupied areas or restricted delivery hours.
Agree who assesses the ground and provides the specified preparation and support. Rough-terrain capability concerns mobility; it does not remove the need for suitable ground during lifting. Confirm a landing area and the arrangements for keeping other people and vehicles clear.
- Who conducts the site assessment?
- Who confirms the ground support and matting arrangement?
- Which access permits or traffic controls need to be arranged?
- Who will be on site to receive and coordinate the equipment?
3. Which documents and personnel are included?
Request inspection evidence for the actual crane and accessories, together with the personnel credentials required by the authority and contractor. Verify equipment identifiers, validity, scope and any restrictions rather than checking only that a certificate exists.
Clarify whether the quote includes an operator, riggers, signal person and supervision. Agree who prepares and approves the lifting plan and who manages the work on site. These are distinct responsibilities and should not be assumed from the phrase “crane with operator”. Review the UAE lifting documentation guide before mobilisation.
4. What is the complete rental cost?
Compare the same machine, configuration, location, shift length and support scope. Request an itemised quotation and ask which charges apply if the job takes longer or the date changes.
- Delivery, collection and assembly or dismantling where relevant.
- Minimum hire period, included working hours and overtime.
- Operator and supporting personnel.
- Fuel, lifting accessories, mats and other supporting equipment.
- Permit and traffic management responsibilities.
- Standby, cancellation, extended hire and applicable tax treatment.
Price certainty depends on accurate information. Tell the provider promptly if the weight, site position, working window or number of lifts changes. Read the crane rental value guide for further ways to compare hire proposals.
5. What happens if conditions change or the crane is unavailable?
Ask how breakdowns, weather delays and site access problems are handled. Confirm the contact route, response arrangements, replacement availability and any charges in writing. Do not assume that a replacement is immediate, free or identical.
The contract should also explain off-hire notice, collection arrangements and responsibility for waiting time. Weather limits and safe shutdown arrangements belong in the operation’s plan, with a clear process for stopping and authorising a restart.
Prepare one enquiry that suppliers can assess
A useful enquiry combines load details, photographs, an access sketch, proposed crane and landing positions, preferred dates and the required supporting services. Note uncertainties so they can be resolved before the booking is confirmed.
For example, “position an air-conditioning unit on a roof” needs the unit’s verified weight, lifting points, roof height, horizontal distance, available crane position and delivery window. The equipment recommendation follows those facts.
Before confirming the booking
Check that the accepted quotation, site arrangements and approved lifting plan describe the same operation. Keep the crane safety checklist available for the pre-lift briefing and confirm that changes will be reviewed by the responsible lifting team.
Discuss your project with Top Cranes
Send Top Cranes your site location, proposed dates, verified load weight, dimensions, lifting height and placement details. Include photographs and known access restrictions so the team can discuss equipment options, availability and the quotation scope.
